Troy harris, lmsw

staff therapist

If you’re looking for a therapist who…

  • Has dedicated her entire practice to treating OCD and hoarding disorder

  • Specializes in hoarding disorder, contamination, health anxiety, perfectionism, and Relationship OCD

  • Helps clients reduce reassurance-seeking, rumination, checking, avoidance, endless mental review, and other compulsions that keep OCD alive

  • Understands that OCD can look like responsibility, discernment, and conscientiousness

  • Will take neurodivergence seriously, not just work around it

  • Will challenge you with compassion and meet you where you are

…then you might be in the right place.

Troy works with adults and adolescents (12+) whose OCD has crossed the line from manageable to impossible to ignore. For some, OCD is visibly all-consuming. For others, it is quieter but constant, shaping decisions, relationships, routines, and the ability to feel present. Many clients describe their OCD as exhausting and share that it often leads to chronic dissatisfaction, even when things are going well.

Troy’s goal is to help clients feel understood without letting OCD set the terms of treatment. Many of her clients’ past experiences with therapy unintentionally became part of the OCD loop through providing reassurance, encouraging excessive meaning-making, or mistaking obsessive rumination for insight. Troy helps clients identify when OCD is trying to use therapy to optimize itself by turning the search for clarity, self-reflection, and even emotional processing into another compulsion.

Troy works with many OCD presentations, with specific expertise in perfectionism, contamination, health anxiety, hoarding, and Relationship OCD. She also frequently works with compulsive checking, moral scrupulosity, and magical thinking. She is trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and uses both modalities to help her clients decide whether OCD is the return on investment it claims to be.

As a Black lesbian woman, Troy values working with people of color and LGBTQ+ clients seeking OCD treatment that won’t make them feel the need to explain, defend, or “unpack” their identities. She frequently works with neurodivergent clients and understands how OCD can interact with ADHD, autism, executive functioning, sensory needs, demand avoidance, and persistent overwhelm. For adolescents, parent involvement is focused on reducing accommodation and helping families respond to anxiety in ways that support ERP rather than defaulting to reassurance, rescue, or avoidance.

As someone who is recovered from OCD, Troy understands how persuasive it can be when it claims it’s protecting you, preparing you, or holding your life together. She also knows that it’s possible to build a life that isn’t dictated by fear. If you’re ready to see what life looks like when you prioritize your quality of life over OCD’s demands, please reach out.
