Sonal Govila
Sonal Govila, MHC-LP
Staff therapist
Sonal (any pronouns) believes that therapy can be a space of transformation, healing, and hope—and that this work begins with co-creating a space where you feel comfortable and safe bringing all versions of yourself. Using a trauma-informed anti-oppressive approach, Sonal addresses the ways in which people can feel stuck in their lives, and explores what liberation and growth mean to them. Sonal has experience working with individuals navigating trauma (including family of origin-related, racial, immigration, and intergenerational trauma), disordered eating and body image concerns, relationship issues, experiences of childhood/gender-based violence, anxiety, mood disorders (including bipolar I and II), and job and career related stressors. They also facilitate folk’s identity-based explorations, including their relationship with gender and sexuality, geographical/cultural identities, disability, and neurodivergence. Sonal draws from feminist, narrative, internal family systems, and psychodynamic approaches, and is trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy).
I might be the right therapist for you if…
…you want a therapeutic relationship that offers different perspectives, asks for consent, and moves in trauma-informed ways that honor your capacity
…you’re looking to create a different relationship with yourself and move through experiences of guilt and shame and/or feeling ‘stuck’, ‘stagnant’, ‘not good enough’
…you want to explore the deeper roots behind your feelings and actions, while also learning tools that make the day-to-day easier
…you’re looking for a therapist with lived experiences of immigration and navigating multiple cultural backgrounds/identities
…you need a therapist who understands the impact of systems of oppression—such as racism, imperialism, capitalism, ableism, cisheterosexism, casteism, and more—on individuals and communities
…you are unsure what you want out of therapy but are looking for support and know that “something needs to change”
…you’re not sure what all these words mean but some of it resonates!
